Lotioncrafter OSC - One Step Conditioner
Lotioncrafter OSC is a 25% active vegetable derived cream rinse concentrate that offers tremendous formulating advantages, as well as desirable substantive conditioning benefits. Lotioncrafter OSC gives formulators a means of creating elegant cream rinse conditioners in a single step, with minimal ingredients, and allows them to produce these products easily over a wide pH range without the risk of hydrolysis. As a dialkyl quat, Lotioncrafter OSC is able to provide this flexibility because the emulsions it forms are hydrolytically stable and unaffected by pH, unlike ester quats which can hydrolyze and cause the system to break down if used outside a strictly defined pH.
As a quaternary ammonium compound, Lotioncrafter OSC is substantive to hair and offers the well-known benefits of this classic conditioning agent.
Emulsions using Lotioncrafter OSC remain relatively stable in terms of both pH and acid value. As a result, Lotioncrafter OSC allows for a wider pH specification, thereby simplifying manufacturing and improving cost efficiency. Because these emulsions have such excellent long-term stability, Lotioncrafter OSC may also help prolong the shelf life of finished products.
The dual functionallity of Lotioncrafter OSC as a cationic conditioner and self-emulsifier and its great flexibility and versitility as a pH stable formulating aid enable Lotioncrafter OSC to be used in both skin and hair care formulations. Lotioncrafter OSC forms cost-effective emulsions that have elegant esthetics, as well as excellent stability without needing adjustments in pH, enabling formulators to create creams and lotions that are mild and gentle on the skin and within the skin's natural pH range (pH 5-6.5), as well as hair care products that offer improved styling and bodying effects. Because of its wide pH tolerance, Lotioncrafter OSC can be used to make economical low-solids products or as the foundation for more sophisticated systems that have other ingredients such as proteins, emollients, or botanicals, incorporated.
To formulate, simply add Lotioncrafter OSC to water and heat to 70-75°C (158-167°F) with mixing. Lotioncrafter OSC can also be heated with only a small amount of the water. Adding Lotioncrafter OSC to as little as one quarter of the water and heating the mixture to 70-75°C (158-167°F) with mixing for thirty minutes is sufficient to produce a stable emulsion. Once the emulsion is formed, the unheated portion of the water should be mixed in slowly.
