The blade is made of high carbon steel, and fitted into a white oak body, and the depth of cut is easily adjusted. Instead of a flat facet cut, you have a rounded edge that feels wonderful in the hand. The soap is held in one hand and the planer upside down in the other. Because it is narrow, and finely made, the beveller fits comfortably in your hand and is easy to hold. Each edge of the soap is run along the groove in the wood and across the blade--beveled effortlessly on all eight sides. This beveller works equally well with soft and rock hard bars -- far better and more safely than a razor blade set in wood. While the carbon steel blade is not dangerous like an exposed razor blade, it will cut and care should be taken when using it.
