Multifruit BSC

Multifruit® BSC is a concentrated blend of five botanical extracts: bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange, and lemon. These extracts contain several naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids. Alpha hydroxy acids have been shown to promote smoother, younger looking skin by increasing the rate of cell renewal.

According to the manufacturer: At a 10% dilution, this product produced a 34% in cell renewal when compared to the untreated control side. Accordingly, there was a 143% percent increase in the number of squames generated. Evaluated at 4% in a commercial cream, this product increased cell turnover by 20% relative to the control formulation.

While the manufacturer recommends a use level between 5 - 15%, we advise less experienced formulators to use this product at the lower level. All products made with AHAs should be tested using a pH meter (not pH paper) to ensure products at final formulation have a pH of at least 4.0.

Because products formulated with AHAs can increase sun sensitivity, the FDA requires specific labeling of products which contain AHAs and do not include sunscreens. According to the manufacturer, the sugars in this product are produced without the use of bone char and it is therefore a VEGAN product.

Formulation Guidelines

• This product should be added to a formulation at the end of the procedure and at the recommended usage rate.
• Some formulations containing polymers such as Carbopol require thet the Multifruit BSC be pre-diluted and/or neutralized.
• Always check compatibility with clays and other inorganic thickeners.
• The best formulations for Multifruit BSC are nonionic creams and lotions.
